Privacy Policy

This policy describes the information collected during a visit, why it may be used, and when another service may receive it. Continued use of Mills County Criminal History signals acceptance of these practices.

Data You Give Us Directly

Search Queries

A name or place entered into a search box is sent to the outside company that provides the tool. That provider processes the query and supplies any result. We do not keep a separate log of those search terms.

Messages and Contact Submissions

An email or other direct message may be retained long enough to respond and maintain the exchange. It remains within our organization unless disclosure is required by law.

Data We Gather Automatically

Our systems can receive routine technical details when a visitor loads a page:

  • Page-view dates and times
  • The referring website, when available
  • Browser type and version
  • Device and operating-system information
  • IP address
  • Pages viewed and approximate visit length

Cookies and Analytics

Cookies are small files placed on a device. They and analytics services help combine traffic data, such as which Mills County pages are used most and where visits end. Browser controls can block cookies, though a blocked cookie may change how part of the site works.

What We Do With This Data

  • Routing a query to the selected search partner
  • Diagnosing errors and performance problems
  • Measuring which pages are useful
  • Operating and improving site speed
  • Displaying advertising that may reflect visitor interests

No Criminal-Record Data on File

We do not keep, compile, or sell a database of personal criminal records. Mills County guidance points to the sheriff, the Iowa District Court, Iowa DCI, and the Iowa Sex Offender Registry as the official custodians. Iowa Code chapter 692, including section 692.2, governs dissemination of DCI criminal-history information. Visitor data is not assembled into a consumer report or a third-party criminal file, and this site is not a consumer reporting agency under the Fair Credit Reporting Act.

Third-Party Search Partners

Outside companies supply the search tools. Information entered there is handled under that provider's privacy policy. Each provider controls its own retention and disclosure rules, so review those terms before sending a query.

Links to Other Websites

Links may lead to Mills County offices, Iowa court and agency pages, legal resources, or outside search services. Once a visitor leaves this site, the destination's privacy rules apply. Check them before providing personal information.

Advertising companies may use their own systems to track activity across websites for targeted advertising. We do not control that tracking.

Who Might See Your Data

Personal information is not sold. It may be disclosed to:

  • Analytics providers that measure traffic and performance
  • Search partners that process a submitted query
  • Advertising networks that serve ads
  • A government body or law-enforcement agency acting under a valid legal demand

How We Protect Your Data

Reasonable security practices protect the data in our control. No internet system can promise complete security, so we cannot guarantee that unauthorized access will never occur.

Users Under 18

The service is intended for adults, and we do not knowingly collect personal data from anyone under 18. If such data is identified, it will be removed.

Your Data Rights

Iowa consumer-protection law, including the Iowa Consumer Fraud Act in Iowa Code section 714.16, may apply to some practices. Iowa Open Records Law, Iowa Code chapter 22, governs public records held by government custodians, not private visitor data kept here. Subject to applicable law, a visitor may:

  • Request deletion of eligible personal data
  • Ask what personal data is held
  • Seek correction of inaccurate personal information
  • Object to certain processing when a legal right permits it
